The Grand Canyon Council came together with the East Valley community on October 19 to honor a true leadership and community service champion, Doug Coleman, at the 2023 East Valley Good Scout Award Event.
The event, held at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Mesa, Arizona, was an opportunity for the community to come together, celebrate Scout values, and support the work of the Grand Canyon Council.
The Good Scout Award is a prestigious recognition presented to individuals who embody the core values of the Scouts, as expressed in the Scout Oath and Law. It is a testament to an individual’s commitment to the betterment of their community and their unwavering dedication to the principles of Scouting.
Doug Coleman, a public servant with an extraordinary record of community leadership, was the deserving recipient of this year’s Good Scout Award. Throughout his illustrious career, Coleman has served as a member of the Arizona House of Representatives, a former Apache Junction Mayor, and currently, he serves as the Justice of the Peace for Pinal County Precinct #6.
A Mesa native, Coleman’s commitment to community service extends well beyond his political roles. He has been an ardent advocate of volunteerism, including multiple positions with a local Scouts BSA council. His unwavering dedication to the youth and the community truly embodies the Scout spirit.
The 2023 East Valley Good Scout Award Event brought together business and community leaders from the East Valley. The event was chaired by Mark Killian, owner of the Killian Company, and it was a testament to the strong spirit of community and collaboration that defines the Grand Canyon Council.
But the event was about more than recognition; it was also an opportunity to raise funds to support the critical mission of the Grand Canyon Council.
