On February 16, 2024, Troop 3329 in Phoenix attended The Great Southwest Klondike at Camp Raymond in Williams, Arizona.

The lumberjack-themed event featured patrol competitions in line with the Paul Bunyan Award, such as first aid, a firebreak race, a log drag, tomahawk throwing, fire building, a fun snowman building contest, and, of course, a Klondike sled race.

Some patrols creatively donned plaid shirts, matching snow hats, or knitted beards to earn lumberjack spirit points. The biggest challenge of the weekend was the snow! Troops used sleds to transport gear across several feet of snow to their campsites. Temperatures were as low as 18 degrees at night, but sunny weather during the day made for perfect Klondike conditions. Troop 3329 came prepared for the cold with good tents, ground cover, insulated sleeping pads, extra sleeping bags, and appropriate clothing. Some had cold feet, but all slept comfortably while earning their camping frost points. Thanks to Richard Carleton and Matt Tantau, Klondike Chair, for creating a fun and memorable Klondike event.
