R-BOO-C 2024 was a spooky, fun-filled weekend that brought together Cub Scouts, their families, and Scouts BSA Troops for a Goonies-themed adventure!
R-BOO-C 2024 was another frighteningly fun weekend, filled with many great memories for Cub Scouts, their families, and the Scouts BSA Troops who volunteered as staff!
This year, Data and Chunk from The Goonies kicked things off with the announcement of some new activities and the return of some R-BOO-C favorites.
New this year, Arrow of Light Scouts had the chance to camp and cook at the Zombie Outpost with the R-BOO-C Zombie Troop. The AOLs also learned how to prepare for the Zombie Apocalypse using skills from AOL First Aid and AOL Outdoor Adventurer! (Thanks to Troop 531, Troop 365, Troop 3365, Troop 787, and Troop 3126!)
Another new activity was the Deadwood Derby! Imagine building a car weighing as much as 10 pounds that has to survive a gnarly ramp starting nearly 10 feet high, launching your car 6-8 feet into the air! Amazing trophies from Scorpion Ridge were awarded for first, second, and third place. The winner this year was a monstrous mobile known only as “Mean Machine”!
A new Goonie favorite was One-Eyed Willy’s Gold, where Scouts had the chance to pan for gold with the help of two ol’ sea dogs sharing their loot.
Goonie Grime gave Scouts the opportunity to make their own glow-in-the-dark slime to take home. Ooh, gross… but cool!
The costume contest is always an absolute blast, with youth and parents strutting down the runway and dancing to disco classics. Awards for first, second, and third place were given in categories for youth, adults, and families. A special thank you to our judges for deciding the winners! (Gil- Troop 15, Tammy- Troop 3015, Melissa- Troop 531, and R-C staff member Landon)
Our all-volunteer kitchen staff served up tasty meals for the approximately 450 people who attended R-BOO-C. A special thank you to Trisha Bergman and Troop 3439 for leading this tricky task!
Saturday night wrapped up with R-BOO-C’s evening campfire, known as Saturday Night UNALIVE, featuring a mix of Scout skits and a neon dance party. For those with energy left, the evening was topped off with two ghoulish favorites: the Late-Night Spooky Movie and the revamped Haunted Walk near the creek! (Thanks, Alex!)
Scaremaster Rankin was extremely grateful to the over 120 Scouts BSA youth and adult staff members who volunteered to make this sold-out event possible! (Troop 531, Troop 15, Troop 805, Troop 3015, Troop 787, Troop 365, Troop 3365, Troop 3126, Troop 50, Troop 280, Troop 3439, Allona Metcalf, Avery Thresher, Morgan Darnell, Juan Nunez, Paul Stithem, Dave Ostermeier, Miles Sakauye, the Wagner Family, and Ranger Craig)
We are also thankful for all the Cubs and families who joined us for this fall favorite!
Don’t be frightened… R-BOO-C will return in October 2025, and registration will go “live” on July 1st!
